Protective Forest Nature Trail Nikoloweg

In order to draw attention to the importance of the forest in protecting against natural hazards and to provide information about the challenges, a protective forest nature trail was built along the "Nikoloweg" in the municipality of Steinbach am Attersee (Weißenbach district).

The nature trail is located in the municipality of Steinbach am Attersee and leads along the "Nikoloweg", a hiking trail that is particularly well frequented in the summer months.

The trail with a total of 20 educational boards leads directly through the protective forest, making it easy to explain the topic to forest visitors. Five of the panels also have a "window to the forest", which is used to actively observe the thematic content of the site.

Texts and supplementary images guide visitors through various topics, ranging from proper behavior when visiting the forest, natural hazard processes, the effects of the protective forest, to the topic of game and hazards to the forest. It also introduces the profession of forester and torrent control engineer and the project of the WLV (Austrian Service for Torrent and Avalanche Control).
