The publication "The protective forest in Austria" summarises essential information on the protective forest and communicates it in simple language.

With a forest cover of around 48 percent of its total territory – equivalent to 4 million hectares – Austria is one of the most densely forested countries in Europe. The Austrian forests are truly multifunctional entities, affecting our lives in numerous ways. They protect us from natural hazards.

This book summarizes the state-of-the-art knowledge and introduces methods and decision support tools to facilitate the use of protective forests for Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) as part of an integrated risk management in the Alpine Space.

Launched at the 33rd session of the Working Party on the Management of Mountain Watersheds (WPMMW), this publication describes the role and importance of protective forests in over 12 European countries.

The “statistics-explained” brochure “Facts and Figures” is dedicated to the content-related priorities regional policy and spatial planning, agriculture, forestry, protection against natural hazards, water management, research at the BML, as well as agricultural education.
