Along the Nikolotrail (Nikoloweg) from Steinbach to Weissenbach am Attersee, the forest has a very special task:
It protects us from natural hazards!
Right here at the base of the so-called Höllengebirge lies our cultural and economic area with all its houses, settlements, businesses and infrastructure. The direct contact with natural hazards, such as rockfalls, rockslides, mudflows, avalanches and landslides represents a permanent danger. An intact protective forest can significantly reduce or even completely stop these processes.
