Working in protective forests and with nature is something very special. Decisions such as which tree needs to be felled have very long-term effects. A forester here at the Austrian Federal Forest Corporation is entrusted with the management of her forest district. Her daily tasks include decisions where and which trees needs to be planted, what maintenance measures are required to produce high-quality timber and which harvesting method is used on steep slopes.
In Austria experts from the Forestry Service for Torrent and Avalanche Control strive every day to protect our living and economic spaces from natural hazards. They are responsible for the protection of our homes, settlements and infrastructures against the dangerous effects of landslides, avalanches, rockfalls and torrents. Hazard zone planning (designation of particularly endangered areas on a map), developing and realization of protective measures as well as serving as authorized experts are their most important fields of work.
