Recovery of the protective function

Due to storms, forest fires, avalanches or intensive harmful organisms, large-scale deforestation and tree losses are occurring more and more frequently. When such disturbances occur in protective forests, the protective function is greatly reduced or lost entirely. Rapid reforestation is particularly important here to prevent erosion, rockfall or other gravitational mass movements.

The management of protective forests, especially those with object protective function as well as the reforestation in alpine high altitudes, has always been one of the most important tasks for forest owners but especially for the Forest Service for Torrent and Avalanche Control. In this area which will become increasingly important in the future, the Protective Forest Hub in Traunkirchen serves together with science and research as a central platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience.
